Kevandsian travel blog entry:
"Hi guys, we finally turn to post an entry before it is longer. We have been in Oz for over five weeks, traveling across the Australian outback Central and Northern Territory" and are Oobie now in Queensland on the east coast.
We left Kota Kinabalu and Sabah, Borneo May 13 in the pouring rain, sharing the airport with planes full of U.S. Marines. The flight back to mainland Malaysia was uneventful, and there we were beaten off by coach to the border with Singapore, customs and dumped in a subway station before we have time to think, much less change money. Oops. Fortunately, a friendly match in Singapore helped us with tickets in town. We trapsed in the heat around the old colonial district hunt for cheap accommodation that was difficult to find in expensive Singapore. We finally found a correct place - ish and took food to a local hawker center and wandered through the town, happy to be back in the world "clean." The next day we visited some of our colleagues working in the offices of former Vetco, where we collected our lifeline - our bank card replacement (thank you guys) and we were half tempted to stay and offer our services for some time. While the city we also wandered through Little India, which recalled many memories of colorful busy streets and the smell of spices, without all the garbage, and no sooner had we arrived we were repulsed by "good price "A shop offering silk like India!
On the night of our departure, the 15th, we came out with Mo, a colleague of Vetco, and his wife and happily forgot we were scruffy backpackers for the night, before kindly seen off from the airport on our flight to Adelaide. Despite our plans to sleep on the plane just was not going to happen but we caught a few movies, Kev tried in vain to squeeze in The Lord of the Rings 2 and 3 that he had tried to see for centuries, but at least now it's missing the last 20 minutes! Arriving in Adelaide, we subject to strict compensation of Oz Customs at the airport is very strict in that we had to remove our shoes when they were removed to be disinfected. On the other side of customs, our host for next week has been patiently waiting for us. We had contacted Allan and Liane Global Freeloaders (where you announce your spare room for passengers to remain free), where we arranged to stay, but we did not expect the extraordinary hospitality and assistance they kindly offered. We were wined, dined, showed the best pubs in the city, had our first Aussie BBQ with kangaroo steak and sampled their music collection. We were given the keys to the house while they were away at work and home sitting by the way, as long as we fed the "savage" who visited them possums backgarden everynight. It really could not have been a better start to our trip to Australia. Adelaide is a really cool city, very relaxed and friendly atmosphere with wide streets, plenty of good pubs and a beautiful waterfront. It is not far from some beautiful sandy beaches and being almost winter here, the weather was a pleasant change with sunny days and cool nights, but cold. We ended up staying in Adelaide for over one week while we got ourselves sorted for the wheels and are now proud owners.
