MarketplaceBed And Breakfast ScotlandPosted on February 2, 2011. New Jersey Mom Happy to report a story of an exciting trip to Scotland Hello, my name is Linda Shute of New Jersey and I want to tell you about my exciting trip to Scotland and "Highlands." My hunger to travel to faraway places has not declined as I get older I still love away places and meet people who live there. Being an avid horse enthusiast, and riding since childhood, I want to combine these two pleasures whenever I can.
One day while browsing my catalog Travel Equitours stars (they offer in the world of equestrian sport), I found a trip to Scotland that I could not pass up. I phoned them and booked the trip on horseback and extended to include the one-week trip travel via rental car and stay at home Bed & breakfast.
This would I go out of their way to meet local people and just maybe get a glimpse of the monster of Loch Ness.
Unlike my trip to Ireland, first, I made the trip on horseback and then went on my own in a rental car.
This time I made the turn, then made the journey on horseback.
Stop at the travel agent I went with checkbook in hand. I paid the airfare and car rentals booked and picked up information Bed & Breakfast. I flew into Glasgow, rented a car and headed east towards Edinburgh.
Having lost and regained several times in this city, I finally found my destination castle.
I took a tour of Edinburgh Castle. It was a breathtaking experience in two ways: the shear beauty of the place and it was a huge steep hill, I had to walk to reach the castle.
Once at the entrance, I asked the guard who was the bronze statue of great and he replied "William Wallace, it is similar to your George Washington in the fight for freedom of Americans."
After visiting the castle and look at the crown jewel it was a much easier trek downhill to the car.
I headed northwest towards Stirling and Fort William and Loch Ness. I spent a day and a night in Fort William Navigation old museums, enjoying a lovely dinner with local folk musicians and dancers.
In the morning I went to Loch Ness in search of the monster mystery.
Loch Ness is a really huge lake 22 miles long with water as black as pitch, in its deepest parts, it is said to about 700 feet.
I learned that the legend of "Nessie" the monster goes back to 565 AD. I visited the museum of Loch Ness and found some very interesting information. Sonar surveys of the loch using the latest equipment failed to find any conclusive evidence of the existence of Nessie, but it has not proved that it does not exist.
Loch Ness has many moods of sensual serenity. Strange currents move across and below the surface and sturgeon have even been known to swim across the lake.
The waters are so black from the depth and height, it is difficult to find something, even on the sonar, so who knows what people have seen or not. You must make your own opinion if Nessie swims freely through the dark waters or not.
Then he was from Aberdeen to return the car and go to the stable for my horse part of the journey was on a small town called Tomintoul in the Highlands.
I stayed in the same hotel for the week and visits on horseback headed in a different direction each day and lasted about 5-6 hours. I found Tomintoul be a quiet little town with not much action you could say they rolled the sidewalks at dusk.
On this trip there were three other riders from England and another lady of the United States.
For the week, we were all suppose to mount Highland ponies. .
