Holidaying in Broome: The Hidden Pearl of Western Australia

If you want to experience another facet of Australia, the head of Broome, an exotic oasis in the heart of the country's last great wilderness area.

Broome is an exotic blend of seaside resort and the border town with the blend of colors and architectural styles. Add a lovely beach and a rich history and all unusual in a tropical climate, and you have the recipe for a great vacation.

Broome exotic nature stems from its history. Its location on the Indian Ocean was a great place for beads and has attracted people from around the world, especially in Japan.

Broome today is a city chic and modern art galleries and jewelry shops chic cafes with a wide range of attractions. You can see the luggers the dock and in bays and buy pearls in Chinatown. For a taste of history, there is a Japanese cemetery, the final resting place of over 900 pearl divers.

Other than the city, the big attraction is the famous Cable Beach, a 14-mile stretch of pristine sand lapped by clear blue seas. To truly appreciate the magic of Cable Beach, take a camel ride at sunset. Swimming is good too. Roebuck Bay on the eastern coast of the city is also very popular.

Broome is also a delight for birdwatchers field as flocks of shorebirds at Roebuck Bay during their annual migration from north Asia. Summer is peak season for viewing, but chicks often stay there for the first two years of their lives.

Broome International Airport provides transport to several regional and national cities and towns.

Public transport in Broome is minimal, but there is a bus every hour to Cable Beach. The flat terrain, it is very good for cycling and bike rentals are available.

Climate:

Broome has a tropical climate with two seasons - wet and dry. During the dry season from May to November, the peak temperatures on day C. Most are about 30 clear and sunny. In the rainy season, temperatures rise to around 35 C. The high humidity and heavy rains are sporadic. The area can be affected by cyclones and storms of summer.

Events: what's on and what's hot

* Broome flagship event is known as "Stairway to the Moon. It occurs when the full moon reflected on the mudflats of Roebuck Bay at low tide. The effect is glorious as a set of stairs to reach to the moon. Occurs March to October.
* In September, the importance of the pearl industry is caught in Shinju Matsuri, which began in 1970. "Festival of the Pearl" The name is Japanese and the event is a show that includes a ball opening carnival and parade float, Mardi Gras, with many cultural activities.
* Opera Under the Stars is held broom and Kimberly in August.
