So it is no secret that with all the TV exposure, Mendocino has become one of the most popular getaways on the California coast.

The series has 12 years total, shooting his last episode in 1996. Meanwhile, 264 episodes were broadcast to millions of viewers each week, each segment to serve a good portion of the landscape in and around Mendocino. Interestingly, there were only nine episodes filmed in the city - the other 255 shows images used outside producers took hold stock in town for the nine shoots.

When you visit this city for the first time, the seascape just reaches out and touches your spirit. It's not just Mendocino - the entire stretch of coast north into Mendocino yields shot after shot, each a little more spectacular than the last. The engine of this portion of Route 101, you really have to make an extra effort to concentrate on your driving, lest you be lulled into a meditative trance.

Mendocino is perched on a cliff overlooking the vast Pacific. It is a small town and really just what you would think a New England fishing village might look like. A mixture of Cape Cod architecture and historic windows give the city an almost theme-town kind of appearance. Windswept trees, grassy hills and steep cliffs are footsteps from the village through several miles of coastal trails that are perfect for hiking and photography. Below, are secluded beaches and steep rocky shores.

In the village you will find a variety of eclectic shops - unusual records, one instrument-a-kind music, old toys, you name it - mingled with historic homes, inns and restaurants. With more than 60 films shot here, it seems that everyone has a video connection somehow. Blair House Bed & Breakfast was fictional home of Jessica Fletcher, the character Angela Lansbury starred in Murder she wrote. Over at the Heritage House, their claim to fame is that the inn was used as the setting for the same year that the film next time. And so on.

Our accommodation for the night did not have a link with the films, although the popular MacCallum House bed and breakfast inn has a strong link with the history of Mendocino. This house dates back to 1882 and was built by Alexander MacCallum, whose father-in-law was among the first settlers in Mendocino. Finally, the house was converted into an inn and bed and breakfast reviews a series of owners until it was purchased two years ago by local residents Jed Ayres and Noah Sheppard.

The 30-something Ayres took a rather unconventional way of Mendocino high school student to the holder of the MacCallum House. He started in the hotel while he was still a student, working summers at the Heritage House as a waiter, bell hop, and Deputy Director. But after earning his MBA, he took a summer internship with computer reseller AmeriData that eventually led to a general manager of the Bay regional office of the company control of 100 employees and sales of $ 60 million . From there, Ayres added an even more important with a start-up DSL provider that unfortunately closed its doors next year. It was time for a decision.

"I wanted to go home and do something else and raise a family," says Ayres. And it was then that he and longtime friend and local entrepreneur Sheppard a deal to buy the MacCallum House, where Ayres had already worked. Ironically, they bought the restaurant.
