The royal palace was built over a hundred years as a means of serving the king, his family and other foreign dignitaries Cambodia. The three main compounds of the Palais Royal, which are divided by walls are designated as the Silver Pagoda, Khemarin Palace and throne room. The total area of the palace covers an area of 174,870 square meters. The main courtroom of the King, The Throne Room is used for a formal meeting, diplomatic meetings and coronations. It was the second building to be built in this complex. Sometimes called the "Moonlight Pavilion" Chanchhaya The Pavilion is the location of King's dancers and a place for banquets and royal state. Phirun Hor Samran is considered the royal house of rest and waiting room king. Samrith Hor Phimean houses an exhibition of Royal costumes and ritual objects on the ground floor. Among the buildings is the only Khmer style of Napoleon III Pavilion, which resembles a European style building used as a place which houses the royal memorabilia. Used for meetings and receptions is the Royal Pavilion Phochani which was built in 1912. Chan Damnak which was built in 1953 is the location of all administrative offices, but this place is closed to the public. In the same large compound of the palace is the 'Silver Pagoda' which was named after the tile floor solid silver adorning the temple. The complex consists of the Silver Pagoda Wat Preah Keo Morokat and other structures such as a library, stupas, shrines, monuments, buildings, miners and other galleries. The public has the opportunity to visit most other parts of the complex except the area of actual residence Royal Palace Khemarin.
