Interview: The Wandering Jew travels the world for stories of Ben Harris Jewish Telegraphic Agency, by Peter Menkin

An American journalist named Ben Harris, who works for the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA), travels the world in search of stories about Jews in their communities. He says in his blog the uniqueness of this mission been. The blog has all the reports on his work as " Wandering Jew ".

This interview with animated the Wandering Jew, the American journalist, Ben Harris, on his travels and Travel was done mostly by e-mail, with two conversations via webcam on Skype. When this writer spoke to him the record for the background, he was in the telegraph offices of the Jewish Agency in New York, but the interview reported by e-mail comes mainly when he was foreign to him. It reports on getting the blog posting : "Imagine this: Your boss calls you one day. He tells you he wants to send you on a journey of several months, almost everywhere where you're going to write about ... well, just about everything you want to write. You will be blogs, videos, Twitter, and writing old standby, the report said. From now on, he says, you spend your time scrounging up the great stories of Jewish life and dream of interesting ways to report them worldwide. Amazing, no? "It's more or less the genesis of the Wandering Jew, a new draft JTA that will lead me across Europe and North America in the coming months, in search of stories that highlight how many people Jew to speak. On the way, we hope to shed light on some key themes of Jewish life in these early years of the 21st century. "   How do you pack for this trip of yours? Nothing really special about the packaging, but I probably travel less light than I '. I wheel a suitcase Victorinox NorthFace a backpack with all fragile items - laptops and cameras for the most part - and a tripod in a third bag. I can manage well with everything, but I'm not exactly light on my feet. I generally get along. Backpack on one shoulder, a tripod on the other, and the bag behind. Again, if you want advice on travel light, I'm not your man. I have waaaay too much. Do you have someone to help you achieve this? Where do you usually stay, anyway? Hotels? Will you tell us the names of one or two that you remember, and how the food? "I usually stay in hotels, but Europe is expensive, so I had to show creativity. Hostel in Berlin Pfefferrebet was clean and adequate but not cheap for a hostel. I paid 59 euros for a private room. There was also a bit noisy, and I need quiet to work and sleep. So I upgraded to the Hotel Amano, a very elegant place, and about 25 Euros more a night. The room was tiny and the heat did not work. Berlin has not been great about hosting. In Warsaw, where I stayed in an exquisite hotel. The hotels are relatively cheap here, even the nicest, so I just treated. The room was beautiful, staff very helpful, if the Internet was a bit expensive, which has been a problem for me. But I highly recommend the place - the Hotel Rialto. Food wise, it varied. I tasted kosher ghoulash Hungarian in Budapest and Vienna Wienerschitzel kosher. But this region is the land of meat and potatoes, and frankly it is old style.
