It is about 140 kilometers (90 miles) south-east of Melbourne at the entrance to Westernport Bay. It's home to a world recognized Grand Prix Circuit, Australia Event MotoGP motorcycle race, the Penguin Parade and renowned as the largest colony of Australian fur seals around the planet.

Mangroves are best protected by Churchill Island Marine Park, based on the small island Churchill. This island was named by James Matthew Flinders and Bass during their tour of Australia in 1798. Today, it houses a number of small farms. Distinctive looking Highland cattle roam its pastures, having first been introduced to the island in 1869 by Samuel Amess AD.
The Penguin Parade is a world-class shows the most popular of the island. At dusk each evening, the cute penguins emerge from the ocean and waddle on the beach of fine sand to rest in their burrows deep into the dunes of the beach.
Racing car enthusiasts seeking an adrenaline rush could benefit from the HSV Hot laps on the Grand Prix kart or rides on the track reduced replica of the main circuit.
Phillip Island is one of the largest concentrations of koalas in Australia. So prolific are these creatures that exports Island koalas to be constantly released into the wild throughout other parts of Australia. The headquarters of this activity is the Koala Conservation Centre located in the center of the island.
