Ko Samet

Attracted by its proximity to Bangkok and its white sand podery, hikers, tourists and Thai tour herd the students on the island of Ko Samet, southest 80km from Pattaya, whose former name, Ko Kaew Phitsadan, means "the sand island with crushed glass. " Only 6 km long, Ko Samet has been declared a national park in 1981, but in general building ban was ignored and there are now over thirty bungalow operations here. Inevitably, this had a huge impact on the resources of the island: the sea is no longer a virgin, and you'll find lots occasionally unsightly garbage. Although the authorities did try to close the island to visitors for one night in 1990, they have since come to an agreement (controversial) bungalow with the operators of the island that now pay rent to the Royal Forest Department .

Samet beaches tend to be characterized by the type of accommodation you will find, although the island is increasingly upmaket, it is increasingly difficult to find a bungalow under 300B double in high season one of the tracks. Ao Phrao Ao Wong Duan and Hat Sai Kaew have some of the most upscale stay, but all other tracks are still at least a bungalow some budget oriented, with the most accessible beaches - Ao Hin Kok and Ao Phai Ao Tub Tim - being the most popular in this category. Highest bungalows on the market are usually made of concrete and have a good, tiled bathrooms, the most expensive are air-con, but prices also depend on whether or not you have a view over the sea Samet no fresh water, so water is transported by truck from the continent and should be used sparingly, most sets of bungalows offer at least a few huts with en suite bathroom. Electricity is rationed in some places the consumer in the evening only, but even these outfits showed the video at night to help keep the beer flowing.

All the beaches are packed holiday weekend and national, so at those times you'd be wise to take the first available room and if necessary changes early in the day. You can also try to call ahead to reserve a room, but not all the bungalows accept reservations and it can be difficult to pass through, first, that most places on Ko Samet still rely on satellite phones . In Songkhran (Thailand New Year in April), it is said to be impossible to find a bungalow on even the most remote beaches, it is probably worth changing your itinerary accordingly. Many managers bungalow increase their rate of sixty per cent during peak periods and sometimes for weekenders like this: the rates shown here are typical high-season rates. If all the affordable housing is full, you can always camp - in accordance with the rules of the national park, camping is allowed on the beaches, despite what you may be told.

Until a few years ago, Samet has been considered malaria, but it was delivered safely. You meet a lot of mosquitoes at dusk, but in order to take lots of repellent, nets or screens are provided for all operations of bungalows and repellent is available in shops and boutiques on the island.
