Rich travel blog entry:
"With less than two months left on my contract, I'm psyching myself to return to England and spending Christmas and New Year at home. This year was a learning curve, and I know I became better and better education that I experience more -!. my recent lessons with students of first and second were great, even if I do say I'm sorry for the students third year at this time though as they are under intense pressure from their parents do not contribute to the process is, forcing them to study until 3 am, forgetting that the sleeping patterns correctly will actually enhance their overall learning ability. At this point, I usually walk into the classroom to find half of the students fell motionless on their desks!
Anyway, apart from some progress reports that took time to complete, Hew and I had not been under too much stress, so that meant I was free to go for a weekend and see the fall colors. I was **** ysing maps on the Internet that predicted when both the "peak" would be for the various national parks. The first and most impressive of them was Seoraksan, a place I had been briefly before, but does not do any hiking, so I went on Saturday morning ... with tens of thousands more!
After traveling three hours by bus, I checked into my hostel, which was conveniently located near the station. I certainly was not long after my slum hotel accommodations usual, that this place has scored more than 93% on www.hostelworld.com - always a reliable indicator. As usual, the Korean owner was incredibly friendly, helps to hiking trails and road information. I do not feel like a dorm room, but especially when one considers the singles with a bathroom were so cheap! I want to reserve several weeks in advance just to be safe than to say that Seoraksan is busy in the fall is like saying that I'm quite partial to beans on toast, ie a sub-complete!
This last point has been proven beyond any doubt when I took the bus 30 minutes to Sokcho National Park entrance - it is like to see Oasis at Knebworth! I could not blame people, but as I glimpsed at the beginning of the range of colors on the show - simply superb. I've never been to Asia before, during autumn, and so this festival of color was new to me. I was happy to just walk around and look closely at the beautiful leaves - to get my bearings, so to speak. I knew that Sunday would be my day of hiking, and I was happy because the weather was in the clear blue sky!
The only worry I had been on the thousands (literally) and ajummas ajoshis would probably done the same way as me on Sunday. These people, at least according to stereotype, are usually middle-aged and in my experience, very strong. Women (ajummas) all seem to wear the exact same clothing as well for an unknown reason, namely jackets with bright pink Sun visas multi-color! So I decided that I would take the first bus to the National Park of 05:30, which allowed me to hike up Ulsanbawi in relative solitude, hope ...
Where I hardly slept at all during the night due to a combination of excitement and a real thud that sounds whenever someone in the building threw their toilets - I that I knew.
