NantahalaPosted on December 23, 2010. Is it possible to place wind turbines on Landin gov.owned NC specifically in the Nantahala National Forest
Some peaks in the forest have a potential for wind power generation. This could benefit the economic and environmental sustainability of Clay County that most people work outside the county, and most goods and services must also be brought from outside. However, a challenge to both the wind and a more locally based economy is that the majority of land in the county is held by the federal government. Probably not. The national forests are to preserve nature, not exploit it. Even wind power is the exploitation of nature. Although it is possible, it is not possible because of the vast area they need to produce and assemble the wind. Also in most federal lands on the power cables should be underground.
