Are you on the same planet ..... but seriously, when people talk about the dreaded word "passengers", he almost always means a workload of profiteers and thieves who will do everything and anything to get whatever they can, legally or not and when they relate that bit dry, they move to a scam or move to another site, leaving still vacant in such a disgusting state that it is rendered useless until a lot of money has been spent on offsetting their rubbish.
As you say, they always seem to have new vans and trucks, always keep animals - usually ferocious dogs, of course - and loads of children who lack education dilapidated, and that makes most people wonder where all these riches come from, except through illegal means.

They are essentially "cash in hand" jobs - imagine gains without any deduction.

They live on hand outs from the British government.
all they can milk the system.
The tax payer law respecting decent keeps them in luxury.

The reality is that some claims - do odd jobs for money - Steal (I had 1000 sq armor cable stole my garden center for travelers) - siphon petrol etc etc

You do a lot of assumptions. How do you know if the gypsies or travelers work or not.

A very common way for travelers to obtain luxury vehicles goes like this -

Visit dealer.
View driver's license with false details.
See the utility bill with false information, corresponding license (yes, it can be done ...).
Have to buy a luxury car on HP
Ask deposition on the luxury car.
Hunting with the car.
Fit number of false plates
Go to the next town ...

I actually saw happen. A group of travelers had camped on a vacant lot next to an industrial area where I worked. After days of about 8 or 9, one of them was in a brand new BMW 7 Series. They moved a few days later.

Approximately six weeks after police tried to find someone who had "bought" a BMW from a local dealership (it seems that the seller had belatedly become suspect). They never got the car ...
