How is the climate in Moscow a typical affecting housing, food, clothing, outdoor activities? As in, how climate affects their lifestyle in the following forms.
Well, Moscow is not exactly the coolest of all Russian cities, but it does get quite cold.
Building materials that are used for housing are much more robust and provide more insulation. hot water pipes are used to heat things like bathrooms, so instead of a radiator pipes would run against the outside wall. They are also used to heat the floors in some upscale apartments.
Russian food is traditionally very rich to provide energy during winter, but it has always been limited to the types and quantities of foods that can be grown for a relatively short spring, summer, and autumn.
The clothing is very warm in winter and that's why you see a lot of fur coats and hats. They provide more heat. Layering is also very common int he winter months.
Regarding the outdoor activities are concerned skiing is great, especially cross country. Children often go skiing during gym class. Other winter sports like hokey are also very well developed.
All this applies to the rest of the country both by the way ..
