The Hall is a former Debod Egyptian temple which was rebuilt in Madrid, Spain.

The temple was originally built 15 km south of Aswan in southern Egypt very close to the first cataract of the Nile and the great religious center dedicated to the goddess Isis at Philae. In the early 2nd century BC, Adikhalamani (Tabriqo), the Kushite king of Meroe, started its construction by building a small chapel dedicated to the unique god Amun. It was built and decorated in a similar design to the chapel later Meroitic on which the temple of Dakka is based. Later, during the reign of Ptolemy VI, Ptolemy VIII Ptolemy XII of the Ptolemaic dynasty, it was extended on all four sides to form a small temple, 12 X 15 m, which was dedicated to Isis of Philae. The Roman emperors Augustus and Tiberius completed its decorations.

From the dock, a long processional path leading to the enclosure wall of stone, with three bridges of stone tower and finally the Temple itself. The pranaos, who had four columns with composite collapsed in 1868 and is now lost. Behind the table in the original sanctuary of Amun, the room offering table and a sanctuary later, with several side rooms and stairs to the roof.

In 1960, due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam and the threat posed to several monuments and archaeological sites, UNESCO launched an international appeal to save this rich historical legacy. In gratitude for the assistance provided by Spain to save the temples of Abu Simbel, the Egyptian state donated the temple Debod to Spain in 1968.

The temple was rebuilt in the Parque de Rosales, near the Royal Palace in Madrid, and open to the public in 1972. The bridges appear to have been placed back in a different order than when originally built. Compared to a photo of the original site, the gateway surmounted by a serpent sun flanked seems not to have been the closest gateway to the temple itself. It is one of the few works of ancient Egyptian architecture, which can be seen outside of Egypt and the only of its kind in Spain.

My channel on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland. With almost one film per day, one can be forgiven for thinking I do nothing else but I have a day job as well. I have produced over 1,400 original films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian and Spanish.

My interest in life is travel and history but I also put movies on other subjects

Please feel free to ask questions in the public domain or comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see errors, I made clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating!
