San Francisco Vacation

Posted on December 19, 2010.
I need some advice on where to stay for our Christmas holidays San Francisco?

We would like to see the holiday rentals in / near the beach somewhere south of San Francisco. We would be able to access the BART to SF to see where we are.

I would greatly appreciate some suggestions of nice areas to stay (I see Pescadero, San Gregorio, Half-Moon Bay, Pacifica and San Pedro on a map, but I know absolutely nothing about this).

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful contribution.

None of the areas you listed have access to BART. Half Moon Bay is a lovely little town, not much to do. I would stay in Sausalito, you can take a ferry to Sausalito from San Francisco. Everything south of San Francisco is very cold and foggy. If you do not mind an hour in Santa Cruz is a fun place. Also Monterey or Caramel.
If you need to stay close to BART, I suggest you stay in San Francisco. Is near Pier 39 or Union Square.

I used to work for an airline and I have lived in the Bay Area my entire life, I hope my suggestions help. The answer to that depends on a number of factors.
1. Budget. If you have to pay a small fortune, so stay in the city (the local name of San Francisco). If you stay in the city, do not stay in the hostel is in a bad neighborhood in the day, which only gets worse at night. You can find decent hotels in the city, just be sure they have a website and see pictures of their rooms (I did not need to stay in a hotel in the city, I can not recommend a person ). But generally, you can not go wrong if the hotel is a 3 star or more (those usually have no concierge, but offer amenities such as coffeemakers and hair dryers, but no have no fancy equipment such as room service).
2. Distance. Half Moon Bay is about 30 miles (on a map), but it takes about an hour to get to, depending on traffic. And you can not get there on BART. BART transportation system is very limited. The problem is in connection with the transit systems in other cities, each city has its own ground transit, and they often do not link well with BART. You could probably stay in a nicer hotel in Daly City, Oakland or Berkeley, which are all close to BART (sometimes walking distance). For the industry to the regions you plan, you'd better rent a car, but can be quite expensive, even for one day only. There is nothing (that I'm aware of) to see in Pacifica. You can spend a week in San Francisco alone and still not see everything you see at work. I hope this helps, let me know if you need more specific information. Good luck.

If you want to stay in a nice little suburban town (while benefiting from easy access to the city at the same time), I'll definitely go with Tiburon or Sausalito in Marin County.

Both are beautiful, outdoor, and comfortable. Both have regular, reliable ferry service to the dock and the Financial District.

If the budget for this - the Ritz in Half Moon Bay is fabulous - stunning views, luxurious rooms, golf, spa, great restaurant. In addition, excellent restaurants in the city of HMB. Jump to Cetrella - it's great.

I support ALL SFDude said. Marin County is beautiful and very accessible to San Francisco via bus / ferry / car / motorcycle. The places you mention are great, but are hazy beyond belief.
